5 Things to do in Victorias

Victorias City – Classified as 3rd class Municipality in Negros Occidental that is known for one of the biggest integrated sugar mill and refinery in the world — Victorias Milling Company (VMC), with its more than 7,000-hectare compound that is a self-contained agro-industrial complex. The city with the help of its Local Government Unit (LGU) pushed the conservation and preservation of its natural resources especially with Gawahon Eco-tourism Development project. The name Gawahon comes from the Hiligaynon word meaning ‘overlooking’ as the place provides a panoramic view of the city below as well as the beauty of the Northern Forest mountains. It is also home to the island’s unique and endemic flora and fauna with a total number of 166 species in the forest as recorded by the Philippine Biodiversity and Conservation Foundation of the Philippines.

1. Raise awareness of environmental and wildlife preservation in Gawahon Eco Park

We went on a trip to Victorias City last November 28. We tapped the city’s Tourism Office under the Local Government Unit and they served as our tour guide during the whole trip.

2. Enjoy local food at Nisols Organic Farm

Nisols Organic Farm is located in Gawahon Eco Park and the place offers a house that can be rented for an overnight stay.

3. Visit the Okinawan House to learn the friendship between Japan and Victorias City

It is a tourism facility inside Gawahon Eco Park that was built to deepen the mutual understanding and friendship between Japan and the Philippines.

4. Feast on fresh seafood dishes and breathe freely in the Mangrove Eco Trail

None of us expected a hidden mangrove paradise at the beach of Sitio Pasil, Barangay VI-A because visitors need to pass through a local community and walk upon a dike which is a short distance before reaching the mangrove trail.

5. learn agripreneurship in Penalosa Farm

Located at the heart of Victorias City, guests can find the Penalosa Farm House just behind the CitiMall located at the main highway in front of the city’s government center. Owned by Mr Ramon Penalosa Jr., the 3,000 sq.meters area contains a 4-storey house that serves as a hostel to accommodate homestay guests.
