Sipalay Feature: Sugar Beach

roadtrip to sipalay

Sipalay is probably one of the city in Negros Occidental most famous for its beaches.  There are plenty of resorts to choose from depending on your budget and preference from high end resorts to the budget traveller.

To be specific, there are 3 main areas in Sipalay.

The Sipalay City Center which is the most accessible and convenient option because it is the center of commerce and trade in the city with high reception/signal compared to other areas.

Next is the Southern Coast which harbors several resorts that are a bit on the expensive side.  The resorts are usually far from the main road and also far from the city center with little transpo options, but you can request the resort of your choice to charter a tricycle for you.  The jagged terrain also makes it physically demanding for guests to reach their designated areas.

Lastly, the Sugar Beach which is the most popular beach in Sipalay for its kilometer-long sugary brown-colored sand strip where several affordable resorts and restaurants are also lined up.  The downside is, it is pretty secluded and will require a boat and tricycle transfers if you want to visit the Southern beaches.  There is little to no reception in some areas similar to the Southern Coast.

@ Jebiamarcs resort

The church community in Silay often go to Sipalay for retreat.  It has been 3 consecutive years already that we chose to stay at Jebiamarcs Resort situated along the strip of Sugar Beach.

They provide affordable air conditioned rooms and huts for bigger groups.  Everything is self-service but you can always ask the staff for assistance and you can also request them to do the cooking and marketing for an additional fee.

If you want peace and privacy, then this place is good for you.

@ the beachfront

The wide, unobstructed sandy beach front allows you to organize team building games and activities or you can just laze around and watch the sunset in the afternoon or enjoy stargazing at night.

One of our favorite activities during the night aside from bonfires and smores is running along the seaside to catch “aligokoy” (stone crabs) or whatever we can catch during the low tide — it could be shrimps, squids or rare sea creatures.

Although, we were advised to get what we are able to consume and not do it out of fun so as not to waste our natural resources.

You can also find an area to go fishing or rent a boat for island hopping.

If you want to add a little more adventure to your island hopping, you may want to snorkel in the Shipwreck area where they sank half of an old ship to make a sanctuary for different kinds of fishes.

Before the pandemic, guests were allowed to visit the city center or other resorts while staying at their booked resort  but the government implemented a safety measure for guests to stay in their booked resort for accountability of the resort owners.
